MenstruMatters

MenstruMatters is a nonprofit I founded in 2023 to combat period poverty and promote sustainable menstrual health. Our mission is to provide eco-friendly menstrual kits to homeless and underserved women in Los Angeles through direct partnerships with shelters and community organizations.

As the Founder, I led every aspect of MenstruMatters, from developing the concept and sourcing sustainable products to fundraising, packaging, and distribution. I collaborated with five shelters across Los Angeles to ensure our kits directly served the needs of their communities.

Through conversations with shelter staff, I learned that many guests are survivors of sexual assault or violence, and their needs vary widely. In response, I designed our kits in sizes ranging from XS to XXL to ensure comfort, dignity, and accessibility for all recipients.

Each kit included reusable bamboo pads, menstrual cups or discs, flushable wipes, and deodorant wipes, providing a sustainable and respectful solution for those without regular access to menstrual care.

To grow the initiative and reach supporters, I launched digital fundraising campaigns, designed outreach materials, and regularly shared impact updates to amplify MenstruMatters’ mission. In less than a year, the nonprofit raised over $7,500 in grassroots donations and donated 400+ menstrual kits to each of our five Los Angeles shelter partners. These efforts provided thousands of sustainable products to individuals experiencing homelessness and helped build long-term relationships with the shelters we served.
